"EQUAL does not mean that women and men will become the same but that women’s and men’s rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not be determined by whether they are born male or female. There have been too many times when I’ve been interrupted by male producers and seen my ideas for my own songs unheard until they were voiced by a man in the studio. For a long time, I felt powerless as though my voice was insignificant. Being rejected simply for being a woman is the worst thing in the world. But no more holding back. I am a firm believer that when given equal opportunity, women are equally as capable as men. #SpotifyEQUAL is an essential platform to raise awareness on women artists’ influence and amplify their extraordinary work. Much more importantly, the program will empower young female artists to overcome prejudice, know their worth, and continue to shape the future of music.
